So my problem here is: I really want to get my macbook back to working. After that I still had the same problem where I could not boot from the USB-disk. It wanted me to reformat the disk again to be able to set the new settings. I also tried to "unlock" the disk by messing with the partition options.

It only took me back to the recovery screen and I couldn't boot it from the install OSX page.

So I copied the dmg file into a USB-disk and tried to start up my mac with the USB-disk in. Bare in mind that this is my first apple-product and I kinda have no idea what I'm doing.

So anyways, I tried downloading a firmware update for a Macbook Pro 13-inch early 2011. I'm not 100% sure but I think the guy I bought it from said that it was a 2011 model.

Since I only got the actualy macbook and the charger when I bought it I don't have any information about what year the mac is or what the serial number is. I even tried my sisters login, still didn't work.Īfter that I started googling the issue and it seems like older macs that did not come with OS X Lion needs some kind of a firmware update. I tried restarting several times to try to login again but it didn't work. Everytime I tried to login with my apple-id it said "this item is temporarily unavailable". After I chose the safest format option (the one that takes several hours) I tried to install OSX again (via the internet since I have no disks).

So I thought I'd repeat that process and reformat + reinstall. Lately though, my mac has been running really slow. Everything went fine, I upgraded to Mavericks later on with no problems. The first thing I did when I got it was to format the harddrive and reinstall OSX. Special thanks for the CSS from its creators at /r/Apple: /u/Xapher19, and /u/gouch23!Ī year ago I bought a used Macbook Pro.
